Spring Wildflowers in Crete

Crown DaisyCrete in April is a delight, not only as the masses of sun-craving tourists have not yet imposed upon the island’s tranquility, but also because a sea of wildflowers spreads itself across the rugged landscape.

The Venetian fortress at Rethymno, on the island’s north-west coast, is awash with Crown Daisies – striking, alabaster flowers with golden centres like miniature exploded suns. The vision transposes into pure happiness, creating a scene in which natural and man-made beauty blend harmoniously together.
