My love affair with boats began when I was very young. My father, a keen fisherman, used to take me out on the local river regularly. I would lie back on the padded lifejackets, my fishing line wrapped in anticipation around my finger, and watch the eagles circling above as the boat gently rocked me like a babe in the cradle.
Photographing boats also provides an endless source of pleasure for me, and one in which I indulge at every opportunity. They make perfect visual subjects, their elegant curves drawing the eye into the shot.
These darling, colourful fishing boats were softly nodding their greeting to me in the bay of Mondello, just outside the Sicilian capital of Palermo, as the local fishermen sat mending their nets and swapping tales nearby.
